Women’s Tennis Hits the Road for Sacred Heart and Long Island This Weekend

 

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany women’s tennis (7-9, 1-0 AE) looks to extend its two-match winning streak at Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m., and at Long Island on Sunday, April 6 and 1:30 p.m.

Last Sunday, UAlbany hosted Bryant and narrowly edged the Bulldogs 4-3.  On Wednesday, UAlbany traveled to Providence, earning a 3-2 victory over the Friars. 

UAlbany’s road trip continues with a visit to Sacred Heart (5-8).  All five of the Pioneers’ victories have come at their home facility.  In terms of common opponents, UAlbany defeated Siena 4-3, while Sacred Heart beat the Saints 7-0.  Army beat both UAlbany and Sacred Heart, 4-3 and 5-2, respectively.  Finally, UAlbany earned a narrow victory over Bryant 4-3, while Bryant beat Sacred Heart by the same score, giving Sacred Heart its first and only loss at home this season.  Sacred Heart will play at Quinnipiac on Friday before hosting UAlbany on Saturday.

The Great Danes will play their third consecutive road match on Sunday against Long Island.  The match will be held at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., home of the U.S. Open.  Long Island is 5-6 on the year.  The only common opponents between the two teams are Bryant, whom both teams defeated 4-3, and Providence, whom UAlbany defeated 3-2 and Long Island defeated 4-3.

Following the match at Long Island, UAlbany will return for its penultimate home match on Friday, April 11 against conference opponent Stony Brook.  The Great Danes will then hit the road for two matches at Binghamton and at NJIT, before closing the regular season at home against Asa College.  The America East Tournament is set for Thursday, April 24 in Baltimore, Md.
