Women’s Lacrosse Extends Undefeated Record to 5-0 with 17-10 Win Over Cornell

ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany women’s lacrosse (5-0) posted a 17-10 win against Cornell (4-2) at John Fallon Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Big Red got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Great Danes responded by going on a 4-0 run to make the score 4-2 with 10 minutes left in the first half.

“I think we came out tentative,” said head coach John Battaglino. “We’ve been moving the ball well in practice, so once we got comfortable we were able to recover our confidence we shared the ball and got everyone involved.”

Four different Great Danes scored the first four UAlbany goals, including Rachel Bowles, Ariana Parker, Katherine Sweeney and Dakotah Savitcheff. Nichole Eamer, Parker and Savitcheff also picked up assists in the Purple & Gold’s opening run.

Battaglino’s squad went on a five goal run mid-way through the half. Allie Phelan scored, and Savitcheff tallied her second of the game. Maureen Keggins scored a man-up goal with 10 minutes left to put UAlbany up 7-3. Bowles and Savitcheff found the cage once apiece to make the score 9-3.

Phelan converted on a free position shot and Eamer scored her first goal of the game to close first-half scoring for UAlbany.

Bowles, Phelan and Parker scored to open the second half before Cornell scored four goals to eliminate the 10-goal deficit and make the score 15-9.

Parker and Amanda Obenshain concluded scoring for the Great Danes.

Eight different UAlbany players scored. Bowles lead all scorers with four goals. Parker, Phelan and Savitcheff notched three apiece, while Sweeney, Obenshain, Eamer and Keggins each scored one goal.

Anna Berman recorded nine save in the cage for UAlbany. Kathleen Lennon took eight draws and recorded four turnovers as well as four ground balls to lead the Purple & Gold in all three categories.

The Great Danes will look to extend their undefeated start at William & Mary on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
