Women’s Cross Country Victorious at Meet of Champions

Meet Results

Bronx, N.Y. – For the second consecutive race, senior Brittney Lane paced the University at Albany women’s cross country team to an overall victory.  The women placed first out of a field of 20 teams, edging host Iona 67-100.

Lane was the first Dane to finish, earning fourth place overall with a time of 22:44.33.  Her teammate, junior Silvia Del Fava, was not far behind however, finishing in fifth place and essentially crossing the line in tandem with Lane in 22:44.56.  Immediately following Del Fava was senior Kathryn Fanning in sixth place with a time of 22:48.09.  UAlbany’s remaining scoring athletes were freshman Jessica Donohue, who finished in 19th place with a time of 23:32.19, and senior Brianne Bellon, who finished in 33rd place in 23:52.12.

Directly following Bellon in 34th place was freshman Johanna Smith, who crossed the finish line in 23:55.04.  Junior Molly Pezzulo rounded out UAlbany’s top seven in 49th place with a time of 24:09.91.  Also competing for UAlbany was freshman Schuyler Pruyn, who finished 92nd overall in 25:21.75, and freshman Katayzyna Geiger, who finished 159th with a time of 27:33.11.   A total of 190 athletes competed in the 6k race.

But the biggest news of the day was that the women beat three Northeast Regional ranked teams in the field head-to-head.  Sixth-ranked Iona, ninth-ranked Yale, and 11th ranked Brown all fell to UAlbany on Saturday.  Two weeks ago UAlbany beat then 13th-ranked Vermont in the America-East Pre-Conference meet, giving the Danes 4 head-to-head victories over ranked opponents in two meets this year.

The women have two weeks to rest before heading to Lehigh for the Paul Short Invitational October 5 at 11:00 a.m.
