Vote Thompson And Burek For America East Lacrosse Fan’s Choice Player of the Year

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany’s lacrosse senior attack Rachael Burek and sophomore attack Lyle Thompson are the two nominees in their respective sport for the Fan’s Choice for Player of the Year in the America East Conference. Fans can vote from now until Tuesday, April 30 at noon. To help each player get closer to winning click here for Lyle and Rachael.

In her final season as a Great Dane, Burek is tearing up the competition. The senior attack has been moved from a true goal scorer to the “facilitator” of the offense and it has paid dividends. She is second in the nation in assists per game (3.62) and third in the nation in points per game (5.77). The Rensselaer, N.Y. native is three assists and nine points away from breaking the program’s record for assists and points in a season. Earlier this season, Burek broke the single-game record at UAlbany for points in a game with 11 against Binghamton.

On the men’s side, Lyle is having a sensational sophomore season. Being a part of the Thompson trio that includes his brother Miles and cousin Ty, has helped Lyle lead the nation in points per game (6.85) and assists per game (3.92). The junior attackman already owns the program’s record for assists in a season with 51 at the moment and is one point away from breaking UAlbany’s Cort Kim’s record (89) for points in a season.

Both lacrosse squads are having successful seasons up to this point. Men’s lacrosse is currently 10-4 overall, 4-0 in conference play and have locked up the No. 1 seed in the America East Conference Tournament. Women’s lacrosse is also 10-4, 4-1 in conference play and have nailed down the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

Women’s lacrosse hosts Vermont in the regular-season finale at John Fallon Field at 1 p.m., while men’s lacrosse travels to Stony Brook for its regular-season finale at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m. Both games are on Saturday, April 27.
