UAlbany Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Quinnipiac in 16-2 Home Victory

ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany women’s lacrosse team put up its most dominant performance in a near-calendar year with a 16-2 home win over Quinnipiac on Saturday at John Fallon Field.

UAlbany (3-0) put up its top defensive performance since allowing just one goal in a 19-1 victory over Manhattan on March 11th of last season.  It is the team’s largest margin of victory since is 21-3 win over Fresno State on March 21st of last year.

With Kathleen Lennon setting the pace with eight draw controls, Rachel Bowles earned five goals with an assist.  Maureen Keggins was a perfect 3-for-3 on shooting, adding an assist, while Sarah Martin had four second half goals and scooped two ground balls.  In goal, Anna Berman saved seven of nine shots on goal to earn the victory.

For Quinnipiac (0-2), Kyra Ochwat scored both of the team’s goals, with Kayla Fu having an assist.  Samantha Tilts had the loss despite eight saves.

Bowles got UAlbany off to quick start, netting a goal 2:14 in, then setting up Keggins for another score.  The team added two more in a 25-second span from scores from Nichole Eamer and Keggins again, pushing the run to six with goals from Ariana Parker and Dakotah Savitcheff to begin the game on a 6-0 streak in the opening 10:17.

Ochwat scored her first goal eight seconds later as each side went back-and-forth in going minutes.  Parker stopped the drought with a goal at the 12:10 mark, with Bowles adding another less than a minute later.  Keggins added her third before the end of the half as UAlbany took a 9-1 lead into halftime.

Bowles forced the running clock with her third goal of the game, adding another just minutes later.  Martin then got free for three consecutive goals by the end of the 46th minute of the game.  Bowles and Martin each added another goal as UAlbany completed its 10-0 run to lead 16-1 with 8:15 left.  Ochwat added her second score with 4:47 left, but no other Quinnipiac player scored, sending UAlbany to victory at 16-2.

The Great Danes will head north next Saturday to play Dartmouth at noon in Hanover, New Hampshire.
