ALBANY, N.Y. – After winning the Albany Cup for the fourth consecutive year on Friday night to open the season, the Great Danes open at home at the SEFCU Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m., hosting Western Michigan.

Tickets for the game are available online at ualbanysports.com.  The game will also be broadcast on AmericaEast.tv.

This will be the first of four straight home games for UAlbany and the beginning of a 14-game home schedule this season.

The Great Danes dominated cross-town rival Siena on Friday at the Times Union Center 69-42, defeating the Saints for the fourth consecutive season and taking home the Albany Cup once again.  Sarah Royals earned a career-high 21 points with six assists, while Shereesha Richards earned a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

UAlbany and Western Michigan met for the first time in school history last season, with the Great Danes winning the game 68-54 in Kalamazoo.

Coming off an 11-20 season last year, Western Michigan won its season opener with a 66-58 victory over Massachusetts on the road on Friday.  The team built a 10-point lead in the first half, holding off a late UMass comeback attempt to win.  The Broncos are led by team captain sophomore Miracle Woods, a member of the All-MAC Freshman Team last year, who earned a double double of 19 points and 11 boards in the team’s first game, adding five blocks.  Junior forward Michelle O’Brien led the team in rebounding on Friday with 17 boards, scoring nine points.
