UAlbany Student-Athletes Spread Holiday Cheer With Adopt-a-Family Program

ALBANY, N.Y. — University at Albany student-athletes are giving back to the community this holiday season through the Adopt-a-Family program.

Through the Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families, the UAlbany teams donated money and bought gifts for families in need.

The Adopt-a-Family Program assists hundreds of families each year, which lessens the stress for families that surrounds the holiday season. Many of the families have little or no financial resources, so the contributions of volunteers like the Great Dane student-athletes make a significant difference in creating a memorable holiday.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives from each UAlbany squad gathered on Wednesday, Dec. 11th to wrap gifts for the families.

“It’s just a really great opportunity to give back to the community,” said Matt Catera, an America East SAAC representative and senior on UAlbany’s track and field team. “These families are from places like Ballston Spa and the Colonie area. It’s just a great way to give back.”
