UAlbany Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Princeton, Penn for Scrimmages on Saturday

 

ALBANY, N.Y. – In its final tune-ups before the first game for #10 UAlbany, the Great Danes will host #8 Princeton and the #18 University of Pennsylvania for scrimmages at John Fallon Field on Saturday afternoon.

Attendance is free for all fans for the entire event.

UAlbany will play Princeton at 12:30 p.m. to begin the day.  Penn and Princeton will play at 2 p.m., followed by UAlbany taking on Penn at 2:45 p.m.

UAlbany comes into the scrimmages ranked #10 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocation (USILA) Coaches Poll and #11 in the Warrior DI Media Poll.  Predicted to finish first in the America East Preseason Poll, the Great Danes sport its three All-Americans at attack from last season in Lyle Thompson, the Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Magazine DI Preseason Player of the Year, Miles Thompson and Ty Thompson.  The unit combined to score 254 points in 2013.  On defense, Blaze Riorden returns after earning all-conference and all-rookie honors in goal after having a 59.1% save percentage last year.

Princeton enters the season the top-ranked school in the Ivy League at #8 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #10 in the Warrior DI Media Poll after going 9-6 last season and 3-3 in league play.  Leading the Tigers is the first overall pick in this year’s Major League Lacrosse Draft: senior midfielder Tom Schreiber finished with 28 goals and 32 assists in 2013.  Junior Mike MacDonald also was an All-American last season, scoring 43 goals at attack.  Primary goalkeeper Matt O’Connor allowed 9.38 goals per game and had a 51.7% save percentage.

Penn, currently ranked #18 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #15 in the Warrior DI Media Poll, finished last season 8-5 with a 3-3 standing in the Ivy League.  The team is led by First Team All-Ivy League keeper Brian Feeney, who had a 58.9% save percentage and allowed 7.29 goals a game.  Also getting first team all-conference honors is the team’s leading scorer, senior midfielder Zack Losco, who had 23 goals and 31 ground balls.
