Swag for Sustainability
By ASP Staff
The ninth annual Energy Campaign at the University at Albany started today, aiming to reduce electricity consumption on campus by 10 percent. To get the ball rolling, the Office of Environmental Sustainability put up tables outside the Campus Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. asking students to pledge to use less electricity, complete with Podium Series swag. The tables also had more information about how to cut electricity use and live a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
In 2014, the Energy Campaign reached an 8 percent reduction in electricity use, according Mary Ellen Mallia, the director of the Office of Environmental Sustainability. The campaign this year promotes a competition between the academic buildings and residence halls.
Students can also upload photos of their energy saving habits to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtag #UAlbanyEnergy to enter to win a $100 gift card during the campaign.
