Student charged with DWI

A University at Albany student was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his SUV into a police car, injuring two officers.

Rory Edelson, 19, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Mercer and Ontario streets in Pine Hills at 2 a.m. on April 19.


Edelson allegedly was drunk during an investigation of the crash, according to Albany Police. The two officers, whose names were not released at press time were taken to Albany Medical Center with minor injuries and later discharged. Their injuries were treated at the scene by the Albany Fire Department.

The student was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and

Possession of a Forged Instrument.

According to the University website, Edelson is a 2011 Dean’s List student from Baldwin, Nassau County on Long Island. He was arraigned Saturday in Albany City Court.
