Shereesha Richards Earns America East Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After leading UAlbany to a pair of wins in the opening weekend, Shereesha Richards has been chosen as the America East Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This is Richards’s first Player of the Week honor and six weekly award of her UAlbany career, being named Rookie of the Week five times last season.

The sophomore forward and Preseason All-Conference Team member helped the Great Danes start 2-0 in the opening week of the season with victories over Siena and Western Michigan.

In the season opener against Siena, Richards earned a double double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and four steals.  Then in the home opener against Western Michigan, she shot 12-17 (70.5%) for a career-high 25 points, adding nine boards and three steals. 

On the week she averaged a league-best 19 points a game, adding 10.5 boards a contest.  In the first two games, Richards leads UAlbany in scoring, rebounding and steals.

Richards and the Great Danes will suit up against Marist on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the SEFCU Arena.
