Senior Midfielder Allie Phelan Named to Tewaaraton Watch List

WASHINGTON, D.C. – University at Albany women’s lacrosse senior midfielder Allie Phelan was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List in the second round of midseason additions, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced on Thursday.

Phelan was one of five additions to the national watch list after scoring 13 goals total in her last three games. The senior scored five goals in a 13-11 loss at No. 3/3 Syracuse on Tuesday, April 1, and is the only player to net five goals against the Orange this season. She also tallied five points (3g, 2a) in a 15-7 win at Vermont last Saturday. Her performance last week earned her America East Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Phelan set a new single-game career high in goals in a home 22-2 victory against Binghamton, and matched that number against Syracuse. She has scored 27 goals and tallied 30 points so far in 2014. The senior is also posting a season shot percentage of .509 and a shot on goal percentage of .830.

The Tewaaraton Award presented by Panama Jack is given annually to the top male and female college lacrosse player. A panel of coaches appointed by the Tewaaraton Foundation selects the winner.

There are a total of 58 women’s lacrosse players on the Tewaaraton Watch List, and the group will be narrowed to 25 on Thursday, April 24. The selection of 25 players can already be on the Watch List or be added by the committee. The five finalists for the men and women will be revealed on May 8, and those individuals will be invited to the presentation ceremony in the nation’s capital on May 29.
