HANOVER, N.H.Shereesha Richards notched the best UAlbany scoring day since 2009, earning 32 points and leading the Great Danes to a 81-59 victory over Dartmouth and a 7-0 record.

“We settled down in the second half and did a great job disrupting their shooters,” says UAlbany head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.  “I am happy everyone got to contribute; when our bench gets better, our team gets better.”

Richards shot 15-18 from the field (83.3%), adding 12 rebounds for her third double double of the year and sixth-straight 19+-point game.  Her 15 field goals is a new UAlbany DI record, with the school record being Cindy Werner’s 16 in 1978.  The last time a Great Dane scored at least 30 points was on March 13, 2009, when Britney McGee scored 32 against Boston University.

“My teammates kept finding me in transition and the post,” says Richards. “I kept trying to adjust against double teams, but I kept pushing and either powering through or looking for the kick out.”

“She is an incredibly hard worker in the post,” adds Abrahamson-Henderson. “Sarah [Royals] and Margarita [Rosario] did a great job finding her and Megan [Craig] in the paint today.”

In addition, UAlbany has won 15 consecutive true road games dating back to November of 2012.

Megan Craig finished with 14 points off 7-10 shooting and five rebounds.  Both Margarita Rosario and Sarah Royals each had seven assists and two steals, with Rosario scoring seven points and Royals having six.

An early 5-0 run put the Great Danes up 5-2.  UAlbany kept going for layups while Dartmouth found early success from the three-point line.  The Big Green used a pair of threes to later go up 8-7.

Richards was on fire in the first half, hitting seven of UAlbany’s first nine makes.  She hit three layups in a row, followed by a Tammy Phillip long two to pull UAlbany up 15-8.

Fanni Szabo tried to pull Dartmouth back in, hitting a three to spark a 5-0 run.  Richards responded with another pair of layups to keep the Great Danes up 19-13.

Never surrendering the lead, UAlbany traded baskets with Dartmouth as the two sides went back and forth through the rest of the half.  Up 27-26, Keyontae Williams earned a steal and score, followed by Sarah Royals setting up Richards after a rebound.  Richards hit and layup and one with four seconds left in the half, pushing UAlbany up 34-29 at halftime.

Three different Great Danes, Craig, Richards and Royals hit layups in the early part of the period to put UAlbany up 41-31 after 2:22 elapsed in the second half.

At 41-35, UAlbany surged forward with 14 straight points, with points in that run scored by five different players, to push ahead 55-35 and not allowed any Dartmouth points for over four minutes.

The Big Green took a timeout and pushed back, getting an 8-0 run to get within 12 at 55-43.

UAlbany called timeout, and the team responded with 11 straight points in a span of 2:40, five by a layup and three from Rosario, to rebuild the advantage to 23 at 66-43 with 7:42 left.

The Great Danes never led by less than 21 again in the game as Cassandra Edwards, Imani Tate, Zakiya Saunders and Jessica Fequiere contributed points down the stretch as UAlbany took the win 81-59.

For Dartmouth, Szabo shot 8-13 with 22 points, including hitting six threes.  Abbey Schmidt had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

UAlbany will finish up its three-game road trip next week, taking on NJIT on Tuesday, December 10th at 7 p.m.
