Two men reportedly robbed the Western Ave. Mobil station Wednesday morning, then fled towards University Drive behind the station.

The suspects have not yet been apprehended, and the Albany Police Department is investigating the incident according to Albany public information officer Steve Smith.

Two unidentified males entered the Mobil with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded cash from an employee.

The employee, who called Albany Police after the incident at around 1:40 a.m., said the suspects were wearing dark hoodies, dark clothing, and face coverings.

After taking an ‘undetermined amount of cash’ according to APD, the two men fled the scene towards University Drive.

Smith said that no injuries were reported during the incident.

University Police Department deputy chief Aran Mull said this morning that UPD had doubled its usual patrol numbers after the incident and that they would assist APD any way they could.

When asked if students should stay away from the area, Mull said he was not aware of any safety concerns.

“At this point in time we have no information that there is any threat in the area,” said Mull. “I would reiterate that if anyone has any information, they should call APD.”

SUNY alert system sent a mass email to students and faculty at 3:55 a.m. The email directed those with information on the incident to call 518-462-8039.

This is a developing story.
