ALBANY, N.Y. – The No. 19/18 University at Albany women’s lacrosse team (10-2, 2-1 AE) closes out its regular season home slate with a mid-week nonconference game against Columbia (3-7, 0-5 Ivy League), on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

John Battaglino’s squad dropped its first home contest in 13 games on Saturday, falling 8-4 at the hands of then-No. 15/15 Stony Brook. The loss put the Seawolves in sole control of first place in the league. The loss also marked the lowest offensive output for UAlbany this season.

SERIES HISTORY

The Great Danes and Lions met for the first time last season, and the Purple & Gold came through with a 15-6 victory in New York, N.Y. Ariana Parker led all UAlbany scorers with four goals, while Rachel Bowles and Nichole Eamer tallied three goals apiece. The Great Danes committed just four turnovers, and out-shot the Lions 29-18.  The Purple & Gold is on a four-game winning streak against the Ivy League.

CAREER MILESTONES

Senior Anna Berman recorded her 50th win between the pipes earlier this season, and head coach John Battaglino also notched his 50th win at UAlbany. Sophomore attack Rachel Bowles has 93 career points, while senior midfielder Ariana Parker has 169 career points and 136 career goals.

Parker is 16th nationally among active career leaders in goals and currently ranks fifth in the Division I UAlbany era in career points and third in goals. She is one of just seven Great Danes to score 100 or more goals in her career.

Berman ranks 13th nationally among NCAA career leaders with 361 saves.

SPREADING THE LOVE

The Great Danes present a balanced scoring attack this season, with four different players having scored 20 or more goals so far this season. Rachel Bowles leads UAlbany with 33. Parker and Phelan trail Bowles with 28 and 27 goals, respectively. Freshman Dakotah Savitcheff rounds out the group with 26 goals on the season.

RANKED AND ROLLING

UAlbany is ranked No.19/18 this week, and has made an appearance in the national polls for four straight weeks.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA

The Lions have lost five games by three goals or less, including their most recent trip-up at Yale, 9-6 on Saturday. Paige Cuscovitch leads Columbia on offense with 25 goals and 28 points on the season. The senior recently scored her 100th career goal and had three against the Great Danes in the 2013 meeting.

Columbia has lost two-straight with the league loss to Yale and a home loss to UMBC 10-8 last Wednesday. The Lions also fell 13-6 earlier this season to Cornell and 12-9 at Dartmouth, teams UAlbany has beaten in 2014.
