ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany field hockey looks to keep its winning streak running this weekend against Yale and Rutgers. The Great Danes face Yale at 1 p.m., on Saturday and Rutgers at 2 p.m., on Sunday.

No. 13 UAlbany started the season 3-0 for the first time since 2010. The Great Danes currently post the top goals against average in the nation (0.33) behind freshman goalkeeper Maxi Primus. UAlbany also has the highest average margin of victory in the national ranks at 4.67. The Great Danes beat Bryant 8-0 and Providence 4-1 on opening weekend in Providence, R.I. UAlbany beat Cornell 3-0 at Alumni Field last weekend.

Eight different Great Danes have tallied goals so far this season, and ten have recorded a goal or assist. Sophomore Liza Morgan leads all scorers with five goals, while Daphne Voormolen, Corrine McConville and Molly Mariano have notched two goals apiece.

UAlbany and Yale are meeting on Saturday for the third time all-time. The Great Danes are 2-0 in the series, winning the last meeting 6-1 in 2012.

The Great Danes and Rutgers are meeting for the fifth time on Sunday.  The Scarlet Knights won the last meeting 3-2 in the first game of the 2012 season for UAlbany. Rutgers leads the all-time series 1-3.


The Bulldogs are 1-1 this season after falling 6-1 to then-No. 7 Virginia on Sept. 6, and downing Sacred Heart 6-0 the next day. Gabrielle Garcia has scored two goals and tallied one assist to lead Yale on offense.


The Scarlet Knights are 2-2, tallying both of their losses against nationally-ranked teams. Rutgers lost 2-1 to then-No.19 Boston College in their opening game on Aug. 31 and to then-No. 10 Duke 3-2 on Sept. 8 at home. The Scarlet Knights beat America East opponent Vermont 5-2 on Sept. 1 and La Salle 4-0 on Sept. 6.

Junior Sophie Wright leads the Scarlet Knights on offense with four goals. She was named to the BIG EAST Field Hockey Honor Roll on Sept. 2 after scoring two goals against La Salle. Goalie Sarah Stuby was also named to the conference honor roll on Sept. 9.
