Men’s Soccer Adds Bubby Leasure to Coaching Staff

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany men’s soccer head coach Trevor Gorman announced Wednesday, Aug. 6 that goalie specialist Bubby Leasure has joined the squad as an assistant coach.

“I’m very excited to add Bubby to our staff,” said Gorman. “He has tremendous experience from his playing and coaching careers, and will be a valuable asset to us in all aspects of our program.”

Leasure arrives at UAlbany after spending one year at Colgate. He worked primarily with the goalkeepers for the Raiders in addition to serving as the Director of Goalkeeping for the Soccer Central Club in Syracuse, N.Y. Leasure was also the head coach of the Odyssey Soccer Club out of Sherrill, N.Y.

Prior to his tenure with the Raiders, Leasure worked as the first assistant at Bowling Green with the women’s soccer program during the 2012 season. In 2011 he was the first assistant for the Hartwick women’s soccer team.

As associate head coach of the women’s program at Olivet College in Michigan from 2008-10, Leasure was instrumental in turning around a Comets program that had not reached 10 wins in a season since 2001. Olivet went 13-5-2 in 2010 behind a seven-game home winning streak for its best showing since 1998.

Leasure began his coaching stint at Olivet simultaneously serving as the first assistant for the men’s program in 2008, alongside current UAlbany assistant Bill Boyle. He coached goalkeeper Ethan Felsing to consecutive All-MIAA First Team honors in 2008 and 2009.

Kicking off his coaching career in Michigan, Leasure also led the Lansing Eastern High girl’s soccer team to the district tournament for the first time in school history in 2010.

A 2000 graduate of the University of South Florida, Leasure was a four-year goalkeeper for the Bulls. He garnered Conference USA Player of the Week honors twice at USF during the 1999 season. The Tampa native earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Leasure and the Great Danes begin the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 29 against Appalachian State.
