Men’s Basketball Earns 2013-14 NABC Team Excellence Award

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University at Albany men’s basketball team was one of 125 teams nationwide to earn the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2013-14 Team Academic Excellence Award, the committee announced on Wednesday. The Great Danes posted a season grade point average of 3.18, and currently hold a cumulative GPA of 3.40.

In order to be honored with the Team Academic Excellence Award, teams must post a GPA of 3.0 or above for the academic year. This is the second year of the team award and the first time the Great Danes have garnered NABC academic accolades.

The NABC will also announce an honors court at a later date, which recognizes individual players with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the academic year.

Along with the NABC team excellence award, UAlbany men’s basketball also earned the America East Men’s Basketball Academic Cup in 2013-14. For the second consecutive year, the squad won its respective sport’s academic award and the conference tournament. It was the third straight year the Great Danes won the league’s academic award and fifth overall.
