Men’s And Women’s Cross Country Named Scholar Teams

NEW ORLEANS – In addition to Silvia Del Fava and Brittney Lane earning All-Academic honors on Friday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association also released their list of Scholar Teams for the 2013 cross country season.  The University at Albany placed both the men’s and women’s team on the honorees list.

The list included 217 women’s programs and 160 men’s programs that earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Among the programs listed, 231 were unique, and 146 institutions had both their men’s and women’s programs honored.  The UAlbany women finished the season with a 3.42, and the men finished with a 3.22.

The Providence women were named Scholar Team of the year, winning nationals and earning a 3.38 GPA.  Five athletes on Providence’s women’s roster earned individual All-Academic honors, which ties Colorado for the most representatives.  On the men’s side, Northern Arizona earned the Scholar Team award, finishing second at nationals to Colorado and accumulating a 3.34 GPA.  Two Northern Arizona men earned individual All-Academic honors.  Southern Mississippi had the highest cumulative GPA for the women at 3.79, and Chattanooga had the highest for the men, at 3.71.
