Megan Craig – One of the Tallest Players in D-I Women’s Basketball

ALBANY, N.Y. – In UAlbany’s frontcourt stands the one of the tallest players in Division I women’s basketball, 6-foot-9 Megan Craig.

Along with being 6-foot-9, her wingspan has been measured at seven feet, making her a strong presence in the paint.  And she has used that presence, finishing second in the conference with a 54.9% shooting percentage last season, only to teammate Shereesha Richards’s 61.1%, with top ten finishes in blocking and scoring.

“She is a game-changer because of her height,” says coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. “The game has to adapt to a player like Megan.”

Craig, a member of the New Zealand National Team, enters her junior season with the Great Danes.  She was named to the 2013-14 Preseason All-Conference Team after earning All-Conference Third Team honors last season, averaging 10.6 and 4.8 rebounds a game.  She led UAlbany is scoring against North Carolina with 12 points.

Pittsburgh has a taller player, the 6-foot-11 Marvadene Anderson.  Only one other player in all of Division I women’s basketball, UCLA freshman Savanna Trapp, also stands 6-foot-9.  Former Baylor star and WNBA player Brittney Griner was 6-foot-8 in her college days.

Before Craig came to play for the Great Danes, UAlbany had a pair of 6-4 players, Kirsten Peterson and Devran Tanacan, for the 2006-07 season.  Only one other player has been 6-3 or taller since then other than Craig.

Last season, Craig and the UAlbany frontcourt, including Richards and Julie Forster, helped the Great Danes outrebound their opponents by over 10 boards a game, the eighth-best rebounding margin in the country.
