Man of Steel gears fans towards a new superhero watch By Anthony Dominguez Staff Writer email@example.com By

Contrary to Marvel, DC has never really explored the idea of connecting all of their films in a shared universe although they did something similar with their cartoons in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Outside of that, DC has mostly stayed in their comfort zone focusing on films about Superman and Batman. They did however try something new with 2011’s “Green Lantern” to mixed results.
Now that Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight Saga” is over DC felt it was time to try creating their own universe and they decided to herald it with Last Son of Krypton himself, Superman. “Man of Steel” retells the origins of Superman with a more realistic tone similar to “The Dark Knight Saga.”
The film starts with the destruction of Superman’s home planet Krypton as to be expected. From that point on we see him trying to adjust to life on Earth and discover his true purpose.
Henry Cavill steps into the role as Superman/Clark Kent and I feel he does a good job for the most part. Other good standouts are Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as the film’s villain General Zod.
My views on this film are mixed to this day. I may not be as big a fan of Superman as I am other superheroes but even I recognize that there is something wrong with Jonathan Kent telling his son Clark that he should have let a group of kids drown on a bus as opposed to using his powers to save them.
Comparatively I feel that Joe-El is a much better guide for Clark as he finds about his past. However the film still has its problems as many argue that Superman ultimately does more harm than good to the city of Metropolis towards the end of the film.
There’s also the very controversial way he ultimately deals with General Zod.
I suppose if you don’t read too much into it the film isn’t bad per se but to longtime fans of the character I can’t guarantee you’ll enjoy this film.
As I have said I am very mixed on the film. There are things that I like and things I don’t like. If you really want to have a stance on the film I’d recommend seeing it so you can make up your mind.
Regardless a sequel has already been confirmed in which Batman is to appear.
