2014 USILA Yearly Award Winners (Inside Lacrosse)

PERRY, N.Y. – After lighting up the scoreboard with 128 points and leading the top offense in Division I, UAlbany’s Lyle Thompson has been honored as the Division I Outstanding Player of the Year and the DI Outstanding Attackman by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocation (USILA).

Thompson earned the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award, for DI Outstanding Player of the Year, for the first time, and the Lt. Col. J.L. (Jack) Turnbull Award, for Outstanding Attackman, for the second-year running.  He has won all three USILA yearly awards that UAlbany has gotten in its program history.

He adds these honors along with being the 2014 America East Player of the Year, a Tewaaraton finalist, with the latter’s trophy being awarded next week in Washington, D.C., and an All-America East First Team selection.

The junior has compiled the top single season point total in DI history, earning 128 points for UAlbany, as well as tying the DI single season assists record with 77, adding 51 goals.  He became the first player in DI history to have a pair of 100+ point seasons after finishing with 113 last year.  In UAlbany’s 18 games he has scored at least four points, including 11 seven+ point contests, leading the Great Danes to the NCAA Quarterfinals and the America East title.

Other players who received USILA DI Yearly Awards include: Tom Schreiber of Princeton for the Lt. J.G. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Award (Outstanding Midfielder), Niko Amato of Maryland for the Ens. C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award (Outstanding Goalie) and Joe Fletcher of Loyola for the William C. Schmeisser Award (Outstanding Defensive Player).
