Great Danes Celebrate First Home Game
By Jonathan Peters
The University at Albany football team drew a large crowd this Saturday when they faced up against Holy Cross; marking their first home game of the season.
Students, parents, alumni, and UAlbany supporters of all ages enjoyed fun activities and games like Kan Jam on the lawn before the game. There was a barbecue serving hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks while DJ Syxx Figgas played music to keep the party going. Every student that attended the pregame activities had the chance to receive a free UAlbany t-shirt. During halftime, the crowd enjoyed a fireworks show over the stadium while the cheer and dance teams put on performances.
Robert J. Jones received an award from the Athletics department for the support he provided the team during his term as president of the university. A moment was also taken to recognize Grace Claxton, a UAlbany track and field runner that competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
Overall, it was a festive night for the UAlbany community. For many, this was there first college football game they had ever been too. The Great Danes will host their next game against St. Francis on Bob Ford Field at Tom & Casey Stadium. The game is scheduled for Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. with food and activities such as Rock Climbing to begin at 5 p.m..
