Four Named To Women’s Track All-Academic Conference Team

America East Release

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After the conclusion of the cross country season in the fall, the University at Albany was represented in the season-ending America East All-Academic selections by one athlete, senior Kathryn Fanning.  With the indoor track season now finished, the latest round of All-Academic selections has been announced.  UAlbany has four women named to the conference All-Academic list, leading all other institutions.  No other school had more than two representatives.

Eleven women were named to the All-Academic roster, from six of nine America East member institutions.  Fanning, and fellow seniors Brianne Bellon, Silvia Del Fava, and Jillian Haynes led the group.  Hartford’s Megan Barry, UMBC’s Deborah Adelola, and Stony Brook’s Olivia Burne were also named.  New Hampshire and Vermont had two selections each, with Elise Beattie and Jessica Salley representing the Wildcats, and Alicia Clark and Yolanda Ngarambe representing the Catamounts.

Fanning adds indoor 2014 to her impressive list of All-Academic selections.  She was named to the All-Academic outdoor team in 2013, the indoor team in 2012 and 2013, and the cross country team in 2011, 2012, and 2013.  She has accumulated a 3.98 GPA in Biology, is a researcher at the RNA Institute, and is a published author in the Journal of Neuroscience.  Fanning holds indoor school records in the 1,000 and the mile, and led UAlbany this season in 1,000 and mile, and was second in the 800.  At the America East Indoor Championships, Fanning placed second in the 1,000 and distance medley relay, and third in the mile, and ended the season third in the 1,000 and fourth in the mile among America East competitors.

Bellon has accumulated a 3.54 GPA, majoring in History with a minor in Education Studies.  She led all America East athletes in the 800 by the end of the season.  At UAlbany, Bellon sits in second place all-time on the indoor 800 list, fourth on the 1,000 list, and ninth on the mile list.  She placed third in the 800 at the America East Indoor Championships and placed second in the distance medley relay.

Del Fava has accumulated a 3.98 GPA in Urban Studies & Planning and Geography.  After setting the school record for 6K during the cross country season on her way to nationals, Del Fava was victorious in every one of her races during the indoor season, except for one ninth-place finish in the mile at the Columbia Invitational.  She set new school records in the 3,000 and the 5,000, and won both of those events at the America East Indoor Championships.  She ended the season leading all America East performers in the 3,000 and 5,000, and was fifth in the mile.

Haynes, having already been named to the 2013 Outdoor All-Academic squad, has accumulated a 3.78 GPA in Human Biology.  She led UAlbany during the indoor season in the 60 and the 200, placing third and fourth, respectively, in those events at the America East Indoor Championships.  Haynes sits in third place all-time in both events in UAlbany indoor history.  She ended the season fourth in the America East in both events.

Each nominee must be at least in sophomore standing academically, have compiled a minimum 3.3 GPA and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s 2013-14 contests or be a significant reserve.

Student-athletes worthy of consideration are nominated by member sports information directors and voted on by a committee of SIDs, academic advisors and faculty representatives from all nine member institutions.
