Football Adds Neverdon, Gontarek, Borruso To 2014 Incoming Class


ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany football program has added three more standouts to Head Coach Greg Gattuso’s inaugural incoming class. The Great Danes will welcome Russell Neverdon, Josh Gontarek, and Andrew Borruso in the fall of 2014.

RUSSELL NEVERDON (Woodstock, Md. / 5’7 / 170 / WR/RB)
Russell Neverdon will graduate from Calvert Hall College High School in 2014 where he earned two varsity letters for the Cardinals. Neverdon logged 48 catches for 649 yards as a senior, while also rushing 208 yards on 27 carries for a total of nine touchdowns. A team captain, Neverdon was a Maryland Crab Bowl All Star, Chesapeake Bowl All Star, and Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 selection.

JOSH GONTAREK (Mount Airy, Md. / 5’11 / 170 / WR)
Josh Gontarek, an incoming freshman from Linganore High School, was also a Maryland Crab Bowl All Star and Chesapeake Bowl All Star. A team captain, Gontarek recorded 45 receptions, 1,172 yards receiving, and 21 touchdowns as a senior, leading his team to a state championship runner-up finish. In his final two seasons on the gridiron, Gontarek logged 99 receptions for 2,136 yards and 29 touchdowns, while earning first-team all-area and all-conference honors on offense and defense. He also is his school’s record holder for receiving yards in a game.  

ANDREW BORRUSO (Oceanside, N.Y. / 6’1 / 295 / OL)
Andrew Borruso, an offensive lineman from Oceanside, N.Y., comes to UAlbany by way of the University at Buffalo. Borruso was a member of the Bulls’ squad that earned a trip to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2013. A 2012 graduate from Oceanside High School, Borruso earned three letters and served as captain for one season. He was named an All State, and All-Long Island honoree.
