Field Hockey Announces Local Additions for 2014 Recruiting Class

ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany field hockey added two local field hockey products to its 2014 roster, head coach Phil Sykes announced on Wednesday.

Anna Bottino | M | Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa

Bottino was named to the 2013 All-State team, in addition to her Times Union and Saratogian Field Hockey Player of the Year honors as a senior. She was also a 2012 & 2013 Section II All-Star as a two-year captain. The midfielder scored 25 goals and tallied 32 assists in her career.

She led Shenendehowa to the New York State Section II Championship in 2011 and 2013, and the Class A State Championship in 2013. With her club team ADK Field Hockey, Bottino went to the U-16 National Indoor Championship and earned second place at the national indoor qualifier. At the U-19 level, ADK took second place at the Disney Field Hockey showcase in 2012 and the National Indoor Championship in 2013. Bottino also led ADK to back-to-back first-place finishes at the Festival Showcase in 2012 and 2013.

Sykes on Bottino: “Anna is an extremely hard worker and has a deep desire to win. Anna is from one of the best field hockey clubs in the northeast (ADK) and is coming off being named the Player of the Year as well as winning a State Championship.  She will challenge for a spot in the midfield and/or forward line right away.

Kelsey Briddell | F/M | Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs

Briddell was named to the Suburban Council First Team and the All-State Team as a senior. Named a captain in her senior season, Briddell was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Saratoga Springs.

Bottino and Briddell were teammates at the club level with ADK Field Hockey, earning first and second place finishes at the U-16 and U-19 levels at Festival, the National Indoor Championships and the Disney Showcase.

Sykes on Briddell: “Kelsey is a very versatile athlete and arguably one of the fastest girls in the Capital Region.  Her speed and athleticism will add a great deal to our team.  She too is from one of the best field hockey clubs in the northeast (ADK) and her growth in the club has been impressive to watch.  Kelsey will challenge for a spot as a forward and/or midfield line right away.”
