Event today: Danes dance ‘for those who can’t’
By Reece Williams
The University at Albany chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity and the UAlbany Programming Board have come together to bring the second annual DANE-A-THON to SEFCU Arena this Saturday.
DANE-A-THON is an eight-hour dance fundraiser for the Albany chapter of the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing “funds and awareness for local children’s hospitals.” According to the group’s website, more than 170 children hospitals across the country receive support from the Network. The local chapter is in the Albany Medical Center Children’s Hospital, and all proceeds from DANE-A-THON will go to toward this cause.
“Last year, we raised just over $1,200,” says UAlbany senior and Chapter President of Phi Delta Epsilon Ryan Ricciardelli. “We hope to grow exponentially.”
Ricciardelli says that this year’s goal is $2,000.
The Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon maintains the same values of its very first mission statement in 1991: “We dance for those who can’t.”
DANE-A-THON will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be food and prizes for participants. Teams are welcome.
