Coach Abe Earns 2013-14 Division I Coach of the Year Mom Award

Coach Mom, Inc. Release

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the third-consecutive year, UAlbany women’s basketball coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson has been selected as a Division I Coach of the Year Mom by Coach Mom, Inc.

Coach Mom, Inc. is an organization of collegiate women’s basketball coaches that have children.  The group was created by Erika Lambert, a mother and former coach at Charleston Southern.

“I am very gratified to be able to balance the three most important facets of my life, being a Mom, a wife and a coach,” said Abrahamson-Henderson. “It is a great honor to receive this award.”

Abrahamson-Henderson, married and mother of two daughters, coached UAlbany to its third-straight America East championship, capped by a 70-46 victory over Stony Brook in the title game, and an NCAA tournament berth in Baton Rouge.  The Great Danes went 28-5 this season with an 15-1 conference record, finishing seventh in all of Division I in scoring defense.  Coach Abe earned her third-consecutive America East Coach of the Year honor this season in her fourth year at UAlbany.

Under Abrahamson-Henderson’s leadership, UAlbany has won three-straight conference titles, been to the last three NCAA Tournaments and set an America East record 38-consecutive league victories.

Coach Abe was one of five Division I Coach of the Year Moms for the 2013-14 season, along with Muffet McGraw of Notre Dame, Connie Yori of Nebraska, Joe Lee-McNelis of Southern Miss and Jackie Carson of Furman.
