Cashman-McSween To Contend At Michigan PGA Women’s Open Championship

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany women’s golf coach Colleen Cashman-McSween will compete at the 2014 Michigan PGA Women’s Open Championship this week in Thompsonville, Mich. The tournament will run June 23-25 at Crystal Mountain Resort. Colleen tees off at 10:15 a.m. on Monday.

The field features 69 golfers from 19 states and five countries, including China and the United Kingdom, who will play for the $ 36,000 purse Monday through Wednesday on the championship Mountain Ridge course, which winds across Crystal Mountain.

Before beginning her coaching career, Colleen played in more than 100 professional golf tournaments as part of the LPGA’s FUTURES Golf Tour. Making the cut in nearly 80 percent of her events, she posted nine top-10 finishes, including winning the 2003 Tampa Bay Next Generation FUTURES Golf Classic. She also had two appearances at the U.S Women’s Open. She played in 2002 at Prairie Dunes in Hutchison, Kan., and again in 2006 at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I.

Colleen competed in the Connecticut Women’s Open Championship this past May and tied for 12th in the field of 68. In tough weather conditions, she finished nine over par (78-75—153), including nine birdies.

Colleen completed her first season at UAlbany this spring. Under her direction, UAlbany placed second at the ECAC Championship and third in the MAAC Championship, marking the Danes’ best finish since becoming an associate member of the conference.
