Capital District Rivals Clash as UAlbany Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Siena

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Great Danes will write another chapter of the Capital District rivalry as UAlbany hosts Siena under the lights at John Fallon Field on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the UAlbany-Siena game are $ 7 for general admission and $ 2 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over. The game will be broadcast locally on Time Warner Cable Sportschannel with commentators Zach Bye and Andrew Santillo, and will also be broadcast online on AmericaEast.tv.

The Great Danes have received votes in each the USILA Coaches Poll and Warrior DI Media Poll.  Siena is not ranked in either poll.

This contest features two of best of their respective leagues.  UAlbany is on a three-game winning streak after defeating UMBC 18-14 on the road on Saturday, coming in at 7-5 and 4-0 in the America East.  Siena defeated Quinnipiac 18-12 on Saturday for its second-straight win, entering the game at 8-4 and 5-0 in the MAAC.

In the Division I era, Siena won last year’s meeting 10-9, but UAlbany holds a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series.

This game sees the reunion of UAlbany coach Scott Marr and Siena coach John Svec. Svec was an assistant for Marr from 2001-08.

UAlbany has the top scoring offense in all of Division I, averaging 15.33 goals a game in its first 12 contests.  Lyle Thompson already has an NCAA-high 55 assists and 80 points for a DI-best 6.67 a game, while brother Miles Thompson earns an NCAA-best 4.25 goals a game, tallying 51 goals and 26 assists.  Ty Thompson earns 2.2 goals a game, totaling 26 thus far.

Blaze Riorden is currently leading all of Division I with 14.08 saves per game, earning a 56% save percentage.  Helping protect the cage in front of Riorden is Cody Futia, who has nine caused turnovers, and defensive captain Doug Eich, who has 20 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.  One of the top freshmen on the team, James Burdette, who has 12 caused turnovers, is the tallest player on the team at 6-foot-6.

Redshirt junior attackman Riche Hurley leads the Siena offense with team-highs 24 goals and 35 assists on the season.  Junior midfielder Conor Prunty, who primarily comes off the bench, has 17 goals and seven assists, while senior attackman Colin Clive has scored 20 goals.

The primary player between the pipes is redshirt sophomore Tommy Cordts, who has a 9.38 goals allowed average and a 53.2% save percentage.  His main protector is senior defenseman Adam Hall, who has 11 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls.
