Baseball Series vs. Binghamton Pushed To Saturday/Sunday

ALBANY, N.Y. – Due to impending inclement weather, the University at Albany baseball team’s final series of the 2014 season has been pushed a day. The Great Danes will now play a doubleheader versus Binghamton on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and a single game Sunday, also at 1:00 p.m. In addition, the team’s senior class will be honored in a pregame ceremony on Sunday.

2014 Record: 10-32, 5-16 America East
Head Coach: Jon Mueller (15th season / 310-440-5)

THE COACH: Jon Mueller is in his 15th season as the head coach of the University at Albany baseball program in 2014. The Stillwater, N.Y. native has had proven success as both a player and coach throughout his career. Mueller ranks first among UAlbany’s career leaders with 310 coaching victories, and was named the America East Coach of the Year in 2004. He also led the Danes to the program’s first America East Conference tournament championship title and NCAA appearance in 2007. Mueller has produced dozens of all-conference standouts and has had six players selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft under his direction, including two in the past three seasons.

IN CONFERENCE PLAY: UAlbany ranks fourth in the America East with a .265 team batting average in conference games, led by Brian Bullard’s league-best .405 average. Evan Harasta also ranks amidst the leaders with a .343 average. With just four teams making the America East Conference Tournament, the Great Danes have been mathematically eliminated from earning a berth, entering the weekend with a 5-16 mark. The Danes will look to win their first conference series since taking 2-of-3 from UMass Lowell on April 5-6.

UALBANY LEADERS: Batting .247 as a team this season, UAlbany is led by senior Brian Bullard’s .338 average with 16 RBI and 28 runs scored. Sophomore Evan Harasta follows, batting .316 with 27 runs batted in, while senior D.J. Hoagboon has a .279 average with 23 runs. Senior Josh Nethaway leads the team with 33 RBIs and five home runs. Defensively, UAlbany has a .947 fielding percentage and the pitching staff owns a collective 6.89 ERA.

Head Coach: Tim Sinicki (22nd season)

THE COACH: Tim Sinicki has been named the America East Coach of the Year four times (2005, 2007, 2009, 2010), while his program has advanced to the postseason eight times in the last nine years. In 2013, BU captured its second America East postseason title and advanced to the NCAA Regional for the second time in the last five years. The Bearcats won 30 games, landed five on the all-conference team and garnered a league-high four all-academic honorees.

IN CONFERENCE PLAY: With a 10-10 record, Binghamton holds a one-game lead on Maine for the No. 3 seed heading into the weekend. The Bearcats can clinch the No. 3 seed with a sweep, one win and one loss by Maine to UMBC or two losses by Maine to UMBC. Bill Bereszniewicz leads the Bearcats and ranks third in the conference during league play with a .390 batting average.

BINGHAMTON LEADERS: As a team, the Bearcats are batting .275 with three players hitting above .300 entering the weekend. Bill Bereszniewicz (.366), Eddie Posavec (.336), and Jake Thomas (.305, 30 RBI) lead the team. Defensively, Binghamton has a .971 fielding percentage and a 4.03 team ERA.
