ALBANY, N.Y. – The Great Danes will finish up its homestand on Saturday, hosting Harvard on Saturday, March 1 at noon at John Fallon Field, looking for its first win.

Tickets for the UAlbany-Drexel game are $ 7 for general admission and $ 2 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over.

UAlbany fell to #18 in the USILA Coaches Poll this week and #17 in the Warrior DI Media Poll.  Harvard comes into this game without being ranked in either poll.

UAlbany, from the America East Conference, fell in its second-consecutive one-goal game to start the season last week in a 14-13 defeat to Drexel to fall to 0-2 and will play in its first of two consecutive games against programs from the state of Massachusetts.  Ivy League representative Harvard will play its second game this week after defeating Holy Cross 17-9 on Tuesday to come into Saturday’s game at 1-1.

Starting in 2011, the series will see its third game in four years.  UAlbany won the first two games, including a 16-7 victory in Cambridge last season on March 26.

Though the Great Danes have played two now-ranked opponents, UAlbany has the top scoring offense in the America East, averaging 14.5 goals a game in its first two contests.  Lyle Thompson already has an NCAA-high 10 assists, standing with 12 points for a league-best six a game, while brother Miles Thompson is third in the conference with 4.5 points a game off five goals and four assists.  On the defensive end, Blaze Riorden leads the America East with 14 saves per game, stopping 47.5% of shots on goal thus far.   Senior Cody Futia has already caused three turnovers and has scooped three ground balls.

Harvard had received votes in both the coaches and media polls in the preseason after going 6-8 last year.  The Crimson defense has allowed just 8.5 goals a game early, led by junior Jake Gambitsky in goal, who has a 55.3% save percentage.  The former #2 recruit by Inside Lacrosse, sophomore longstick Bobby Duvnjak has three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls, while sophomore Stephen Jahelka has a pair of ground balls.  On the offense, sophomore Deke Burns is the team’s leading goal-scorer with four scores, while senior senior middie Peter Schwartz leads in points with three goals and three assists.  Senior midfielder Daniel Eipp, who was drafted by the Rochester Rattlers along with Miles and Ty Thompson into the MLL, is looking for his first goal after recovering from a knee injury last season.
