#16/18 UAlbany Men’s Lacrosse Resumes America East Play at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Great Danes go back to conference play on Sunday, April 6th, heading to Connecticut to take on Hartford at Al-Marzook Athletic Field at 1 p.m.

The game will be broadcast online on AmericaEast.tv.  Tickets for the game are $ 7 for adult general admission and $ 5 for seniors 62 and older and youth 12 and under.

Splitting games the previous week, the Great Danes went to #16 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #18 in the Warrior DI Media Poll.  Hartford is not ranked in either poll.

UAlbany is coming direct from Baltimore after a 13-8 defeat to Johns Hopkins on Friday, entering Sunday at 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the America East, defeating Vermont 20-9 last week in its first conference game.  Hartford fell to Binghamton in its America East opener last week, coming into the game at 0-1 in-conference and 4-6 overall.

Winning the last pair of meetings, the Great Danes lead the all-time series against Hartford 12-3, having played every year since UAlbany became a D-I program.

Lyle Thompson already has an NCAA-high 37 assists and 59 points for a DI-best 6.56 a game, while brother Miles Thompson earns an NCAA-best 3.89 goals a game, tallying 35 goals and 19 assists.  Ty Thompson stands 42nd in DI with 2.22 goals a game, totaling 23 thus far.

Blaze Riorden is currently leading all of Division I with 14.33 saves per game, earning a 56.1% save percentage.  Helping protect the cage in front of Riorden is Cody Futia, who has nine caused turnovers, and James Burdette, who has nine caused turnovers and is the tallest player on the team at 6-foot-6.

Hartford has fallen in its last three games and will play the third contest of a four-game homestand.  The Hawks are led by junior attackman Kevin O’Shea, who stands with a team-best 26 goals and 10 assists.  He has taken 117 shots; second in shots is senior Andrew Cacchio with 52, compiling 17 goals.  Redshirt junior middie Adam Yee has a 55.9% face-off percentage, also having seven points.

Redshirt senior Frank Piechota leads the defense in goal, allowing 9.47 goals per game with a 48.4% save percentage.  Primary protectors include sophomore defender Chris Duffy with 22 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers and junior LSM Alex Matarazzo with 10 caused turnovers and four points.
