ALBANY, N.Y. – The conference regular season champion and 1-seed UAlbany women’s basketball team is ready to compete in the America East Tournament at the SEFCU Arena, seeking its third-consecutive league title and berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Tickets are good for a session of games, with two contests in each session.  Chairback seats are $ 18 for each session, while reserved seats are between $ 10-15.  All-session tickets are $ 75 for chairbacks and $ 60 for reserved all are good for the whole tournament.  All games will be broadcast online on ESPN3.

The Great Danes earned the 1-seed after going 15-1 in the America East for the team’s second-straight regular season title.  UAlbany draws 8-seed Binghamton in the first round on Friday, March 7 at 6 p.m.  The winner of that game plays the victor of Maine-Hartford on Sunday, March 9 at either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. (highest seed plays at 11 a.m.), with the final being on Monday, March 10 at 4 p.m.

UAlbany is 5-1 in the America East Tournament under head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson having won the last five games in the past two seasons.  All-time, UAlbany is 8-8 in America East Tournament history. 

The Great Danes are coming off a 66-56 home defeat to Stony Brook on Saturday, snapping their 38-game conference winning streak, to enter Friday at 15-1 in-conference and 25-4 overall.  Binghamton was defeated by UMBC in double overtime 66-60 on Saturday to come into the tournament at 5-24 overall and 2-14 in the America East.

Shereesha Richards leads the conference with 20.2 points a game, scoring double digits in 27 games.  Megan Craig, including 139 points combined her last nine games, has risen to eighth in the conference at 12.4 points a contest. Sarah Royals is averaging 11.4 points a contest to stand 14th in the league.  UAlbany is #1 in the America East in numerous categories, including scoring with 71.9 points a game, scoring margin at +17.0 and field goal percentage at 47.0%.

Binghamton enters the tournament as the 8-seed and has made the America East semifinals twice in the past three years.  The team is led by the squad’s top scorer and rebounder, junior forward Sherae Swinson, who averages 9.7 points and five rebounds a game.  Senior guard Vanesshia Paulk plays the most minutes, averaging 8.8 points a game, while fellow senior guard Stephanie Jensen runs the floor and is the main three-point threat at 32.4%, getting 5.4 points and 2.8 assists a game.
